Jul 09 2012 Published by under Behavioral Neuro

Sci is at SciAm blogs today, talking about a paper that covers a topic that I hadn't really given much thought to before: how can your brain tell how far away a sound it when you hear it? Head over and check it out.

Friday Weird Science: Stuffing your bra for SCIENCE

Jul 06 2012 Published by under Friday Weird Science

You know, science requires a lot of courage. It takes courage on behalf of the scientists, trying new things, developing new techniques. And it takes courage on the part of the participants. It takes a really courageous person to give birth in an fMRI. To orgasm in an fMRI, to have SEX in an fMRI, to...well people like to do freaky things in fMRIs. I bet there's a fetish for that.

But it takes another kind of courage to walk into a bar with a stuffed bra and sit quietly at a table for an hour, waiting to see how many dudes ask you out. It takes a special kind of courage...to stuff your bra for science.

Who are you? The Anniversary Edition.

Jul 05 2012 Published by under Uncategorized

Sci Am Blogs is one year old today!

And to celebrate, I'd like to find out about YOU. WHO...are YOU...?

Taking a page from the illustrious Ed Yong today
, and I want to know who you are. I know that many people find it a hassle to comment at SciAm, so here is the other freer thread, if you would like to comment! Because I really want to know:

1. Who are you?
2. What do you do?
3. How did you find me?
4. Why do you LOVE (or just like? or hate?) SCIENCE!?!

Please do comment and let me know! I know you're out there (all two of you!). I want to know who you are...and thank you for reading. I can even thank you in verse!

Please say a word!

I'd love to 'meet' you!
By name or pseud or anonymously. 🙂
I've blogged several years
Through drama, joy and tears,
And dear readers, you've been with me constantly.

So I'd like to say thank you!
For if not you, then who
would read my pseudonymous words?
I think you're all really neat
And I want us to 'meet'!
So leave a comment, friends, neighbors, and nerds!

...hey I never said it was good verse.

Jul 02 2012 Published by under Behavioral Neuro

Sci is at SciAm blogs today, talking about a cool new study which might bring a new player to the antidepressant game: neuritin. While the stress and depression link is pretty well known by now, neuritin is new, and might end up being something cool! Head over and check it out!
